Fedora Ambassadors Kick-Off Call Wrap Up: what’s next and how to get involved!

The Fedora Ambassadors and other Fedora folks interested in outreach met for an hour call on Thursday, March 31st. We recorded the call and uploaded the video to YouTube. The upload is left as unlisted as the quality came out less than ideal, but the link can be shared for direct access. We have set up another meeting for Thursday, April 28th at 3 PM UTC.

We have also put together a new whenisgood to set a permanent time and cadence for the meetings. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the whenisgood form by April 27th.

On behalf of the Mindshare Committee, I am happy to announce that we are doing a Fedora tee shirt giveaway next week to celebrate the release of Fedora Linux 36! Also to say “THANK YOU!” to our wonderful community of contributors. Since we have adopted a new Fedora logo (thanks to Máirín Duffy and the Design Team) we have been working to introduce it in a variety of ways, including swag. Keep your eye out for the exact details on the Community Blog next week on Thursday April 21st, and make sure to claim your Fedora tee shirt!

Nest with Fedora & Fedora Hatch: Announcing dates & call for volunteers

Hi Fedora Friends! We made it through another year of living with COVID-19, with plenty of other challenges added on top. To everyone who make up Fedora – thank you for your presence, contributions, and efforts during this trying time. Because we have yet to see an end to living with COVID-19, I opened a discussion with the community about what we should do for this year’s contributor conference.

Based on that feedback, I am pleased to announce that we will be holding the third edition of Nest with Fedora on August 4th, 5th, & 6th. I will be publishing info on the CfP in the upcoming months. We will also be funding local in person meetups that we have titled Fedora Hatch. If you want to participate in an in person meetup, make sure to read on and suggest your ideas on the Flock pagure!

You’re invited to the Fedora Linux 36 Release Party!

As we work our way through the Fedora Linux 36 Schedule, I am pleased to announce we will celebrate the final release of Fedora Linux 36 with a virtual Release Party. Please register on Hopin and join us on May 13th & 14th for a short program of informational sessions and social activities. Make sure to save the dates, share the registration, and show up to party with Fedora Friends!

The program is still in the works, but we hope to include informational sessions that will feature updates about Fedora IoT, Podman 4.0, and a bunch more current community activities. Last, but certainly not least, we will be hanging out in the Fedora Museum WorkAdventure for our Hallway track. Thanks to our amazing community for all your contributions to the latest release of Fedora Linux. Let’s celebrate!

The Fedora Community Outreach Revamp Objective(FCOR) co-leads Mariana Balla and Sumantro Mukherjee have been working on documentation for the last six months with the support of Marie Nordin(FCAIC). New documentation has been created and outdated documentation has been revised with valuable help from the community at Nest with Fedora 2021. Most of this documentation has landed on the CommOps docs page. The updated documentation is still a work in progress and the FCOR team plans to wrap this up in the upcoming months with feedback from Ambassadors and folks who are interested in outreach.

The FCOR team is excited to see this initiative move to the next step! With the first draft of documentation in place, we would like to invite the following folks to join us for a monthly call:

Fedora Code of Conduct Report 2021

Fedora Project’s Code of Conduct and reports are managed by the Fedora Project Leader, Matthew Miller, and the Fedora Community Action and Impact Coordinator, Marie Nordin, and the Red Hat legal team, as appropriate. With feedback from the community the Fedora Council approved a new Code of Conduct that went into effect in May of 2021.

How’d it go in 2021?

We had a small increase (15%) in the number of Code of Conduct reports in 2021 versus 2020. The theories we (the FPL & FCAIC) came up with regards to 2020’s CoC trends hold true for 2021:

Mindshare Committee Quarterly Report – Q4 2021

Fedora Linux 35 Release Party Recordings Available Now!

The Fedora community celebrated the release of Fedora Linux 35 in the third installment of our virtual Release Parties on 12–13 November 2021. A big thank you to everyone who helped to build Fedora Linux 35 as well as the organizers, participants, and attendees at the event! The recordings are now available for viewing in a YouTube Playlist. We had 12 info sessions, 3 socials, and the Fedora Museum WorkAdventure for the “Hallway Track”. We also had a session of the virtual team building event “Beat the Bomb“—a collaborative gaming activity that resulted in hilarity and chaos!

Fedora Contributor Annual Survey Data Set Available

Over the summer of 2021, the Fedora Council held the first annual Contributor Survey. The survey received 800 complete responses, which exceeded the goal of 500. We have processed the data, which are available for download.

Coordination of the survey was a wonderful community effort. Fedora Council member Aleksandra Fedorova proposed and led the survey effort with support from Marie Nordin (FCAIC). Many teams across the Fedora Project contributed, including: the Mindshare Committee, the Outreach Revamp Team, the Design Team, the Websites & Apps Team, and the Community Platform Engineering Team. Aleksandra and Marie presented a session at Nest with Fedora which goes further into the process and outcomes.
