This article features Alessio Ciregia (alciregi), who clocked in at the #5 spot of badges earned in 2017, with 32 badges! As of the writing of this article, Alessio is the #513 all-time badge earner in Fedora.
GSoC is a summer program aiming to bring more student developers into open source software development. It enables students to spend their summer break working with open source organizations on projects proposed by participating organizations and supported by mentors.
The Fedora Project has participated in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) as a mentoring organization for over a decade now. Once again, Fedora is participating again this year. We are happy to be accepted again as an organization this year and are looking forward to working with many bright and excited students across the world on many parts of Fedora.
2017 was an active and busy year for Fedora. All year, contributors across all different sub-groups, working groups, special interest groups, and teams make the magic behind Fedora happen. With a project as large as Fedora, it is hard to keep others on different sides of the Project up to date. The Fedora Community Operations (CommOps) team held an interactive workshop during the annual Fedora contributor conference, Flock. Flock took place from August 29th to September 1st in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Justin W. Flory and Sachin Kamath represented the team in the workshop. CommOps spends a lot of time working with metrics and data tools available in Fedora, like fedmsg and datagrepper. Our workshop introduced some of the tools to work with metrics in Fedora and how to use them. With our leftover time, we discussed the role of contributor-focused documentation in the wiki and moving it to a more static place in Fedora documentation.
The results are in! The Fedora Elections for the Fedora 25 release cycle of FESCo, FAmSCo and the Council concluded on Tuesday, January 17th. The results are posted on the Fedora Voting Application and announced on the mailing lists. You can also find the full list of winning candidates below. I would also like to share some interesting statistics in this January 2017 Elections Retrospective.
In this election cycle, the voter turnout is above its average level. It is great news as it shows increased interest of the Fedora people in community affairs.
This election cycle was hit by some planning issues as we were running the Elections over Christmas 2016 period. At the beginning I was worrying about the turnout due to the Christmas, but fortunately this was odd and we are more than good from this point of view.

The 2017 January cycle of Elections is in full swing. Voting officially began on Tuesday, January 10th, and ends Monday, January 16th at 11:59 UTC. Voting takes place on the Voting application website. As part of the Elections coverage on the Community Blog, most of the candidates running for seats published their interviews and established their platforms here. Release party this way!
Another awesome Fedora release, and another awesome Release Party in Novi Sad!
The party took place, like last time, on the Faculty of Science, University of Novi Sad in the Department of Mathematics and Informatics. To be even more precise, it’s about three minutes away from our Fedora-powered computer lab! About forty people (among who was a Fedora ambassador from Uruguay) attended! We had four talks about different topics regarding Fedora, security, and hackerspaces.

It was another lazy Saturday with a rare sight of empty Bangalore roads. This FOSS Wave event in Bangalore had been in planning for almost a month. Finally, here we were on September 10th, 2016 in front of the almost a century old structure of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering.
Five speakers reached the venue by 9:30am. We were to talk in two different sessions starting from 10:30am until 4:00pm on the following topics.

For some time now, Fedora has discussed the idea of the Fedora Outreach Steering Committee (FOSCo), a body to coordinate all our outreach efforts. Now it’s time to make it happen!
On behalf of FAmSCo and the Fedora Council, we would like to invite the Fedora community to an all-hands.
So far, the following participants have confirmed attendance.
The fact that we already have a good team of volunteers should not stop you from attending. In fact, we would like to hear more voices from all stakeholders. The more, the better! To get an idea what FAmSCo has been working on so far, please have a look at the wiki page and current status.
None of this is set in stone yet, and we feel we need your input before we go any further. We are looking forward to your comments and to meet you next Monday!
