Save the date: Fedora Linux 34 Release Party!

On the tail of the release of Fedora Linux 34 Beta, I am excited to announce that we will be celebrating the final release of Fedora Linux 34 with a virtual Release Party! Join us April 30th & May 1st for a series of sessions on the new features in F34 as well as some of the latest news and developments in Fedora. Make sure to save the dates and register on Hopin to party with Fedora!

There will be more details coming shortly, but you can expect to enjoy sessions on topics such as Fedora KDE, i3, Fedora Zine, and the new Fedora logo. We will also have a series of our favorite socials, including a pub quiz and a couple game sessions. Lastly, look forward to testing out a new Hallway Track solution that should be a lot of fun and bring some spontaneity to the event!

Fedora Women’s Day 2020 Reflection

Fedora Women’s Day 2020 was a celebration of personal growth, community, and love for open source software. Over three days, women and non-binary folks from the Fedora community shared stories about their lives and work in tech. From the challenges and barriers that they encountered to the achievements and success that they earned, we had the privilege of learning about gendered experiences that informed the journey of each of our speakers.

Nest with Fedora: 2021 Edition

Hello Fedora Friends! Phew, it’s been over a year of living with COVID and everything that has gone with it. Although living in a pandemic has been stressful (to say the least), Fedora has thrived through this time, and we have been connecting more than ever. So it is with mixed emotions that I am announcing that our yearly contributor conference will be virtual: Nest with Fedora 2021 edition.

Fedora @ FOSDEM: how you can participate

This year, we are doing FOSDEM virtual style! Every year in Brussels, Belgium, the first weekend of February is dedicated to the Free and Open source Software Developers’ European Meeting (FOSDEM), the largest open source, developer-oriented conference of the year. As expected, the conference is going online for the 2021 edition, which gives us Fedorans the chance to learn, share, and spend time with each other and the greater FOSS community. We need your help in making this a fun experience for everyone!

Join Us: Design Team Sessions Live!

Just before the Christmas holidays, you may have participated in one of three impromptu live design sessions / video chats I held. In the first session, a group of Fedorans did a critique on one of the Fedora 34 wallpaper mockups. In the second session, another group of us did a collaborative design session for a custom Fedora Discourse theme. In the last session, we did a live digital painting session.

This was part of an experiment to see if there would be enough interest and to generally test out the concept of holding a regular Fedora video chat meetup. Due to the ongoing pandemic, and the fact that it started just as I was returning from maternity leave, the Fedora Design Team never resumed our regular IRC/Matrix text chat meetups, and I was looking to see if we could be a bit more creative (I mean design is a creative pursuit 🙂 ) in how we chose to sync up.

I think the experiment was a success, so we will be holding these in a less-haphazard way on a regular schedule, and calling them “Fedora Design Team Sessions Live.”

DevConf.CZ CfP now open

The calls for proposals for DevConf.CZ (18-20 February 2021) is open through the end of the month. This Red Hat-sponsored conference is a great opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with the community. For 2021, DevConf.CZ is a virtual event.

DevConf.CZ is looking for workshops, discussion sessions, and presentations, with a variety of length options available. This large community conference has tracks for a variety of topics including community, IoT, cloud/containers, microservices, networking, desktop, and documentation. Like in years past, there is a dedicated Fedora track. If you weren’t ready to give a presentation at Nest—or if you want to give it to a broader audience—this is your chance. You can submit proposals through the DevConf.cz CfP portal through 1 November.
