Flock to Fedora returns in-person again after four years. This year is in Cork, Ireland from 2-4 August 2023. The CfP is open now. Will we see you there? This article introduces the new Flock CfP system and how to submit your proposal as a presenter this year.

Apply now for the Flock 2023 Call for Proposals (CfP) at cfp.fedoraproject.org. This year, Flock is using a new CfP system. If you have ever submitted a proposal for a DevConf event, it will feel familiar. The deadline to submit is by Tuesday, June 20th, 2023. Now extended to Tuesday, 27 June!

About the Flock 2023 venue

What are Flock 2023 reviewers looking for?

In addition to being the first Flock in four years, we are adding in new variables to this year’s event:

  1. Main track: The usual main track of Flock. Everything and anything to do with the Fedora contributor community. Interactive workshops that get attendees to participate in the main session are preferred to traditional presentations and talks.
  2. CentOS Connect: The CentOS community will feature in a dedicated one-day track on the first day of Flock. See connect.centos.org for suggested topic areas.
  3. Fedora Mentor Summit: (Limited speaker space) A half-day event in the second half of the last day of Flock. Mentor Summit content focuses on workshops and sessions to promote mentorship best practices and to connect mentors and mentees across the community.

All submissions for this year’s event should go to one of our three tracks. When submitting a proposal in the system, you will be asked to choose from one of these three “topics.” The deadline to submit for Flock 2023 is on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023. Now extended to Tuesday, 27 June!

Introducing the new Flock 2023 CfP system

This year, Flock 2023 is using the open source CfP system maintained by Josef Ridky at Red Hat. This is the same CfP system shared by the DevConf CfP system. If you already have an account on the DevConf CfP system, your account already exists in the Flock CfP system. Google and GitHub are supported for login only, although integration with a FAS account login is underway. Fedora Account System (FAS) login is now supported! Thanks Josef Řídký, Kevin Fenzi, Aurélien Bompard, and Ryan Lerch for their help in launching our new CfP system.

After logging in, view the Submit page for Flock 2023. From there, you can create a proposal with your submission. After submitting, check back soon for comments, questions, or updates on your submission by the reviewer team.

Submit to Flock 2023 CfP now!

We hope to see you this year in Cork! If you will be there, consider applying in the call for proposals. If you have questions or comments about the CfP system, you can reply as a comment to this post. Stay tuned for more information about registration and financial assistance in the coming weeks.
