As you probably know, there is annual convention called Flock. This year’s is happening in Cape Cod, Hyannis, MA and will begin the morning of Tuesday, August 29. Sessions will continue each day until midday on Friday, September 1.

I have asked all of the session leaders from Flock some questions.

And now you are about to read one of the responses.

Get Together with Local Fedorans: A UX Design Case by Suzanne Hillman

What is the goal of your session at Flock?

To explain a UX process that I used in an Outreachy internship in a way that others within the Fedora community can use it for their own projects.

Without giving too much away, what can attendees expect to learn or do in your session?

Participants can expect to learn a general UX process that they can use on their own projects. I intend to provide a cheatsheet for them to refer to, and hope that people will ask questions relating to their specific projects.

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in making their software easier for others to use.

What does your talk focus on?

UX, specifically that of Regional Fedora Hubs (part of the in-process Fedora Hubs project).

What does it affect in the project?

The user experience of Fedora projects.

What do you do in Fedora/how long have you been involved in the project?

I’m part of the Fedora-Hubs team, although I’ve not been strongly involved lately due to job hunting. I was part of it for about 6 months, although I also worked at Red Hat from 2003 to 2010 in QE, and was therefore tangentially involved with Fedora during my time there.

What attracts you to this type of work or part of the project?

I’m very interested in making open source software easier to use. I think it has a huge amount of potential, but it’s not user-friendly and that turns people off.
