Hello, I’m Tanushree Banerjee from India. I’m delighted to be selected as an Outreachy intern for the December 2022 cohort. I’ll be working on designing icons for Fedora’s chat system.
What is Outreachy?
Outreachy provides internships in open source and open science. Outreachy provides internships to people subject to systemic bias and impacted by underrepresentation in the technical industry where they are living. Internship projects may include programming, research, user experience, documentation, graphical design, data science, marketing, user advocacy, event planning, and more!
My Experience
I was always interested in open source but found it quite difficult to get into — especially as a designer. When I got to know about Outreachy through my friends / past participants, I saw this as an opportunity. Starting from the contribution period until now has been quite a learning journey. I wanted to share some of the recently-approved work:
Fedora Kernel
Fedora Documentation
OS Space
I’m currently working on Fedora OS Space icon. Here’s a little sneak peak :
With helpful insights from Madeleine Peck and Mo Duffy, I refined my designs to create final approved icons.
Also thanks to other contributors for helping me with ideas, inputs, and appreciation. It really helped me shape the designs. I look forward to designing future icons and the rest of the internship. Happy designing!
