2015 has been an active and busy year for Fedora. All year, the contributors across all of the different sub-groups, working groups, special interest groups, and teams help make the magic behind Fedora happen. With a project as large as Fedora, sometimes it can be hard to keep others on different sides of the Project up to date. To help share what everyone has worked on make happen this year, all sub-groups, teams, or other groups are invited to share your “Year in Review” on the Fedora Community Blog!

Elections Retrospective, 2015

The results are in! The Fedora Elections for the F23 release cycle of FESCo, FAmSCo, and the Council concluded on Tuesday, December 15th. The results are posted on the Fedora Voting Application and announced on the mailing lists. You can also find the full list of winning candidates below. Taking inspiration from Pingou‘s blog post “FESCo vote history“, I would also like to share some interesting statistics in this 2015 Elections Retrospective.

2015 Elections Retrospective Report

In short, voter turnout has improved in all races, and while no records have been broken, the numbers are back to our typical higher levels. A direct correlation was seen between days when we advertised voting and our most active voting days. Incumbency was a big factor in each race (all incumbent candidates were re-elected) and voters showed confidence in the candidates who were previous position-holders.

Heroes of Fedora (HoF) – F23 Alpha

Heroes of Fedora is back. First, we’re looking at Fedora 23 Alpha.

Fedora 23 was released recently, and as is now traditional, it’s time we celebrate all the fine folks who contributed to testing with Heroes of Fedora! Heroes of Fedora (HoF) features some exciting statistics analyzing major areas of contributions. Your regular host Roshi is busy at the moment, so I’m standing in.

As usual we’ll be looking at three major areas of contribution: updates testing, release validation, and bug reports, across the three release milestones – Alpha, Beta, and Final. In this post we’ll be covering Alpha. In the last post, we’ll also see numbers from the Fedora 23 Test Days. There are other important areas QA covers, so these posts don’t necessarily include everyone who helped out, but they’re the areas we can easily generate statistics for.

Fedora Elections - All interviews published

Fedora Elections are here and it’s time to vote! All candidate interviews are published.

The 2015 November / December cycle of Elections is in full swing. Voting officially began on Monday, December 7th, and ends Monday, December 14th at 11:59 UTC. Voting takes place on the Voting application website. As part of the Elections coverage on the Community Blog, most of the candidates running for seats published their interviews and established their platforms here. Are you getting ready to vote and looking for this information? You can find the full list of candidates and links to their interviews below.

Mailing List Migrations: Hyperkitty, Mailman3

Hyperkitty is here

The Fedora Engineering team has been working on a new system for our mailing lists. Mailman 3 came out earlier this year and it has a new shiny web UI: Hyperkitty.

The Fedora Hosted lists will be migrated on November 16th, and the Fedora Project lists later in the week. After migration you should be able to use the new Hyperkitty UI to post and read the lists if you choose or continue to get emails in the traditional way.

Changes in headers and other features

There may be some changes in some headers, so if you filter your list emails be ready to adjust your filters. See wiki page below for details:

Some lists using mailman2 features not yet available in mailman3 will be migrated later. More information as well as current lists migrated, being migrated and deferred for migration can be found at:

FOSDEM 2016 Distro Devroom: Call for Participation

FOSDEM 2016 – Distributions Devroom Call for Participation

The FOSDEM Distro Devroom will take place 30 & 31 January, 2016 at FOSDEM, in room K.4.201 at Université Libre de Bruxelles, in Brussels, Belgium.

As Linux distributions converge on similar tools, the problem space overlapping different distributions is growing. This standardization across the distributions presents an opportunity to develop generic solutions to the problems of aggregating, building, and maintaining the pieces that go into a distribution.

We welcome submissions targeted at developers interested in issues unique to
distributions, especially in the following topics:

Cross-distribution collaboration issues, eg: content distribution and documentation
Vendor relationships (eg. cloud providers, non-commodity hardware vendors etc )
Future of distributions, emerging trends, evolving user demands of a platform
User experience management ( onboarding new users, facilitating technical growth, user to contribution transitions etc )
Building trust and code relationships with the upstream components of a distribution
Solving problems like package and content management (rpm/dpkg/ostree/coreos)
Contributor resource management, centralised trust management, key trust etc
Integration technologies like installers, deployment facilitation ( eg. cloud contextualisation )

Submissions may be in the form of 30-55 minute talks, panel sessions, round-table discussions, Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions or lightning talks.
