Continue readingWe learned this week of the passing of John McDonough (jjmcd). John was a long-time contributor to the Fedora Project, and we are sad to hear of his passing. John contributed heavily to the Documentation team, sharing his knowledge with a global user community. John didn’t just write documentation, he also mentored new contributors. He was a patient and caring mentor, and our community is worse for his loss.
When I first became a Fedora contributor 11 years ago, John was one of the people who welcomed me into the Docs team. His guidance helped me become a better contributor. Although he stepped back from contributing a few years ago, his impact continues.
John’s passion for open source was matched by his passion for amateur radio. His contributions to our Amateur Radio Guide helped many hams get the most out of their hobby. WB8RCR, WB8RCR, WB8RCR, SK

Hey folks! It’s that time of year where we start thinking about Flock. I am going to lay it out up front: based on the severity and ever-changing nature of COVID-19, we have to cancel this year’s edition of Flock to Fedora. We worked with our events team to evaluate the situation. No one can say at this point if conditions will support having a conference in August. Even if the public health situation improves, we understand that many of you won’t feel comfortable traveling and participating in large events.
Continue readingIt was just Tuesday that I announced a change in the election schedule for Fedora 32. Since then, a delay in the datacenter move timeline has given us enough time for the election to proceed as originally scheduled. The published schedule has been updated to reflect the new/old election dates. I have not yet updated the datacenter move dates on the infrastructure schedule, pending more details from that team.

Continue readingOur first few Fedora Social Hour events have proven to be pretty successful so we’re going to do it again! Tomorrow at 2300 UTC! (If this time isn’t friendly to your time zone, don’t worry — we’ll swap to an earlier time next week, alternating as we go.)
We set up a Matrix room for Fedora Social Hour and we’ll use it as our home base each week to meet up and lay out what we’ll do. It could be an online game or other activity we take up in another window outside of Matrix. Come on by the Matrix room and hang out with us!

That passion has been on display in the past week as the community has discussed the decision to move forward with GitLab as our git forge. I want to be very clear: we, the Fedora Council, dropped the ball on communication here. No one intended to be secretive or hide from the community, but we should have done better.
