Continue readingAs a part of the Community Outreach Revamp the Objective co-leads, Mariana (marianab) and Sumantro (sumantrom) along with FCIAC, Marie Nordin (riecatnor), tried to capture the “bright spots” of what motivated the engagement of Fedora Ambassadors. The team approached the situation by developing a set of questions and implementing a community survey.
The idea was to primarily capture:
The community survey received over 40 complete responses (over 100 incomplete) and the results we found provided some interesting and clear insights for the Revamp. The co-leads, FCAIC, along with Vipul (siddharthvipul1), Ashlyn (lilyx), Alberto (bt0dotninja) and Sayak (sayak), spent several meetings analyzing the responses question by question.
Continue readingIn June of 2020 the Community Outreach Revamp was developed. The initial plan was drafted by Marie Nordin and then edited and approved by the Mindshare Committee. Implementation began soon after by co-leads Mariana Balla and Sumantro Mukherjee. It quickly became evident that the Revamp is of monumental proportions and will take a lot of coordination, people, and hours to complete. Although Fedora rarely has non-code related Objectives, the Revamp falls under similar work-load category to other Objectives and is crucial to the future of Fedora’s community outreach.

Outreachy is a paid, remote internship program that helps traditionally underrepresented people in tech make their first contributions to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities. Fedora is participating in this round of Outreachy as a mentoring organization. We have three interns for this round which started on mid December, 2020 and goes until March, 2021. We asked our Outreachy interns to tell us some things about themselves!

Continue readingThanks to our friends at the Spigot MC project, the Fedora Community is invited to build, survive, and thrive in an open-source Minecraft server until Monday, 10 August 2020! Join your friends and invite your family to join by connecting to fedora.spigotmc.net in the Minecraft: Java Edition client.
A paid Minecraft: Java Edition account is required to log in. Open the Minecraft game client and add a new third-party multiplayer server:
fedora.spigotmc.net
The server can hold up to 100 players at once.
Play Minecraft together with other Fedorans from around the world! Whether you want to build your own house or battle skeletons, zombies, and creepers in the night, you can craft your own adventure.
The Minecraft/Spigot server is a great way to catch some down time between sessions, and socialize with other gamers in the Fedora Community. You can also invite your family, friends, or young Fedorans to join in too.
The Minecraft/Spigot server will remain online until Monday, 10 August. After then, a download of the server world (not including The Nether and The End) will be made available so you can load the Fedora Nest Minecraft world in single player or other multiplayer servers.
The Fedora Minecraft/Spigot server follows the same Code of Conduct as Fedora Nest and the wider Fedora Community. Be kind, be respectful, and have fun!

I was recently able to finally finish my Rust bindings for the Bodhi REST API. And since fedora-easy-karma is still unable to submit feedback from the terminal, I thought I could put the new Bodhi bindings to good use, and implement an alternative. Enter: fedora-update-feedback.
The CommOps team is happy to announce Alberto Rodríguez Sánchez (bt0dotninja) as the next CommOps team lead. Alberto contributes to the CommOps team since July 2016 as a leading member. Starting in the Fedora 30 release cycle, he will succeed leadership from Justin W. Flory.
