Hello testers, hope you’re ready for some stats concerning the release of Fedora 27 Beta! The purpose of Heroes of Fedora is to provide a summation of testing activity on each milestone release of Fedora. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
On February 27th, the Fedora Community in Nicaragua ran a Release Party for the F27 Release. The activity took place in a salon of Hotel Mansión Teodolinda in Managua. This is our first activity of the year. This event was late in the Fedora Development Schedule because the Fedora 28 release is coming soon this year, but we need to keep the community active and keep promoting the Fedora Four Foundations in Nicaragua. The event schedule was…
On December 8, 2017, the ambassadors in Mexico City, Efren Robledo (srkraken) and Alberto Rodríguez (bt0dotninja) hosted a Fedora 27 Release Party. The party took place on the UAM Azcapotzalco in the basic sciences and engineering division. We had three main activities: Introducing Fedora 27 talk , Q&A session and a little trivia session with some gifts.
A small but dynamic talk by Efren about the news in Fedora 27 from the perspective of casual user, developer and system administrator. Also he did a quick but very demonstrative installation of Fedora 27.
Fedora 27 was released on Nov 14, 2017. It contained many latest development results from free and open source community at the time.
The Ambassadors in Taiwan, Freedomknight (陳貴鑫) and zerng07 (Cheng-Chia Tseng), hosted “Fedora 27 Release Party at Taipei” event for the community to share the joy of 27 release on Dec 9, 2017. The main theme on the event is to let more and more people know Fedora Project and get involved. The location was at MozTW space, a space of Mozilla Taiwan community, in Taipei.
The results of Outreachy are out! Outreachy is a paid, remote internship program that helps traditionally underrepresented people in tech make their first contributions to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities. Fedora is participating in this round of Outreachy as a mentoring organization. We have two interns for this round which started on December 5 and goes until March 5, 2018. We found some time to interview both of Fedora’s Outreachy interns!
I have been a part of Fedora community for last 4 releases and have seen a lot of changes. Among things that have not been changed, Fedora Release Party in Bangalore is one of them.
Thanks to a bunch of very active contributors and an ambassador & mentor (Sumantro Mukherjee), it has now become a custom to celebrate Fedora Release Party in Bangalore.
Different venues, different topics, different cakes but similar faces joining us and sharing their experiences in Fedora community to encourage new contributors to continue their noble work, and users to start contributing. The success story of a student who got an internship in a big company then became an employee always boosts the energy of college students.
Last RP, we tried to on-board few students for QA contributions and this time they came with a lot of reports. They are now active contributors and they introduced themselves to others. I invited my juniors to be a part of RP so that we can help them see the benefits of Open Source contributions.
Hello and welcome to this issue of Heroes of Fedora focused on Fedora 27 Final release! The purpose of Heroes of Fedora is to provide a summation of testing activity on each milestone release of Fedora. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
Test period: Fedora 27 (2017-10-17 – 2017-11-14)
After a week I would like to share some activities which happened during the past week:
On Thursday, 2017-Oct-12, we had Go/No-Go meeting for the delayed F27 Beta release of the Server (modular) edition. Result of the meeting is No-Go due to missing Release Candidate compose. We are going to run another round of the Go/No-Go meeting on Thursday, 2017-Oct-19 at 17:00 UTC, where we are going to determine the readiness of the F27 Server edition for Beta release. On Friday 2017-Oct-13 FESCo has allowed use of the Rain/Target date scheduling for the F27 Server Beta, so even we slip the F27 Server Beta for one week, the Final F27 Server release is not affected, for now.
Planned update of Firefox browser to version 57 seems to has provoked interesting discussions on devel@ mailing list (“Why is Fx 57 in Updates Testing?“, “Call for testing – Firefox 57“) and was even broad to FESCo. Reading the whole discussion reminds me how difficult is to balance on the edge of the latest updates and stability.
And of course, the list above is not exhaustive and there is much more going on in Fedora community. The list above just summarizing some tasks which has drawn my attention.
With the recent release of Fedora 26, the Fedora 27 release schedule is falling into place. Also worth noting, starting with Fedora 27, there is no longer an Alpha release. As of now, the current Fedora 27 release schedule is as follows.
These dates may change as development on Fedora 27 progresses, so always check the official schedule for the most accurate version of the Fedora 27 schedule.
