Hello, and welcome to the Heroes of Fedora: F25 Alpha edition! Heroes of Fedora is written so that the quality of any release can be quickly surveyed by viewing the stats regarding tests performed on
that release, such as Bodhi updates, Bugzilla reports, and release validation testing. In this case, we’ll be looking at F25 Alpha, so let’s get right to it!
This installment of the Heroes of Fedora series will focus on work done on Fedora 24 Final version.
Welcome back to the final installment of Heroes of Fedora 24 – Final edition! The purpose of this post is to recognize the contributors who made a difference in releasing Fedora 24 Final. Below you’ll find stats for Bodhi updates, release-validation tests, and Bugzilla reports. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Over the past few months, many of us in the Bangalore open source community have focused our efforts of writing test cases for Fedora, organizing a few sessions where one can learn about testing, and how we can do things together. All this while, it has been fun: I’ve met new people, learned things, and realized that sharing even small pieces of knowledge and experiences makes it easier for newcomers to feel welcome.
At one point when Fedora 24 was released, it was exciting as we were closely involved with Fedora release validation testing and so we wanted to put together a release party. All open source projects encourage their communities to celebrate software release and similar milestones. Ours was a simple plan! We were having a really good time learning together and we wanted to get more people to know that there is a better way to gain knowledge: by sharing and working together.
On July 2nd, 2016, the San Fernando Valley Linux User Group (SFVLUG) in Lake Balboa, California, celebrated the release of Fedora 24 at their regular meeting. Fedora Ambassador Perry Rivera (FAS: lajuggler) helped coordinate these efforts at their regular meetup at Denny’s. To help celebrate the launch of Fedora 24, Perry brought some install media and a Fedora cake. The release party helped introduce Fedora 24 to a new group of users by providing them with the software and help to get Fedora 24 for themselves. This report details the release party events with SFVLUG and the impact from the event.

At the second round of Fedora 24 Final Go/No-Go Meeting, Fedora 24 Final RC1.2 has just been declared as GOLD. GA of this release is planned on Tuesday 2016-June-21.

Fedora 24 just recently entered Beta status a couple of weeks ago. With another Fedora release not so far away, it’s time for the Ambassadors to plan their activities around the release. The most common activity for Ambassadors to do around a release is namely the Release Parties. A release party is also a great way for other contributors in the community to get involved with advocacy in their local regions.
Christmas is coming, so we cut a new release of the Fedora Developer Portal for you. We have a few new tools, a new member to our development team, and a new staging instance to test future updates of the Developer Portal before deploying them. Continue reading

First update of what? If you haven’t notice it yet, we announced a new developer portal for Fedora some time ago. Today I released a first update with some new contributions that landed on our GitHub after the announcement. So what’s new?
With the help of the Fedora community we were able to merge two new language sections: Haskell and Mono. That means we are already covering the basics for ~11 language runtimes and compilers!
Apart from that this is mainly bugfix release fixing many typos, but some improvements are merged as well. One of those changes is for example suggesting using libvirt’s Polkit rules instead of those shipped by vagrant-libvirt-doc sub-package when configuring password-less access to libvirt domains via Vagrant.
Some of the pending contributions did not make it for this release, but the next ones might happen more often. Big thank you goes to all our new contributors! And if you haven’t submitted anything yet, perhaps now’s the time. 🙂
Fedora 23 released this past Monday, and several supporting articles were published on the Fedora Magazine to help users learn what was new, how to upgrade from Fedora 22, and of course, read the release announcement. This release set a new all-time record of the most views in a single day for the Magazine. The end-of-day count for November 3rd was 34,019 views across the site. This record was closely followed the next day, with a high of 31,880 by the end of November 4th. Ultimately, the Magazine has continued on an upward trend for the past few release cycles, a pattern that the Marketing Team wishes to continue as we enter the next release cycle.
Last month, Fedora Program Manager Jan Kuřík announced the approval of the Fedora 24 schedule with a current release date of May 17, 2016. Fedora 24 Alpha is slated for release on March 1st, 2016, and the Beta has a release date of April 12th, 2016.
These dates may change as development on Fedora 24 progresses, so always check the schedule for the most accurate version of the Fedora 24 schedule.
