Questions

Why are you running for the Fedora Council?

I think I can represent the community and their feelings, adding also my POV as part of several teams, and having contact with external entities related to the Open Source world.

What do you see as Fedora’s place in the universe?

Fedora’s place is the place of innovation. In Fedora things happen to allow the rest of the world enjoy the technological innovation.

How can we best measure Fedora’s success?

As a project, the way of measure the success could be having more metrics about new contributors, retention rate, objectives proposed by relatively new contributors and also the surveys will give us a good metric of the success of the project. As for the products, the success it’s a little easier to get, having for example download metrics, torrent’s seeding metrics, dnf mirrors metrics, etc.

We just completed our thirty-fourth Fedora Linux. That’s amazing! The tech world isn’t the same as it was in 2003, though. What do we need to do differently in the next 12-18 months so that we’re set up for another successful decade?

Improve the presence in the cloud. AWS, Azure and GCP images are a great start, but also a minimal image for containers is needed (alpine’s image is 5.88 MB and fedora’s image is 187 MB). Also, offerings like shells.com or any other “DaaS – Desktop As A Service” will help a lot in the near future. One thing that we can do different is to provide ready to use VM images (qcow, Another thing we should consider is to stop that little changes that have little impact in the distro, but a huge impact in the community, like “nano” vs “vim”, and/or “fedora” vs “fedora linux”

How should the Fedora Council balance our focus on the mission while also addressing the broader social concerns that affect the inclusiveness of our community?

The work that is being done with the CoC is amazing, and also, creating a CoC review team, that should be diverse is absolutely necessary. Also, publishing some stats on CoC issues, and how they are treated by the review team. Openness is what all the inclusiveness is about.
