Every Fedora contributor is familiar with FAS (the Fedora Account System), and has used it to create and manage their Fedora Contributor Account. The current “FAS2” system was first deployed in 2008, and has managed Fedora users and groups for over 13 years.
The FAS2 software, however, is showing it’s age. It has proved increasingly hard for the Fedora Infrastructure team to support and maintain.
Continue readingFedora developer Ray Strode recently posted to the Fedora Developers list with the news that Wayland is now used by default when you log into GNOME with Fedora Workstation. Previously to try out Wayland with Workstation, there was an additional session in the login screen that allowed you to choose either login with Xorg or Wayland. This change is part of the much anticipated proposed Fedora 24 feature, Wayland by Default.
Ray also noted that, as the Change is still proposed, if Wayland by default doesn’t pan out, or the change doesn’t get approved rawhide will be switched back to having both sessions.
Ray also noted:
“But it’s good to get this in rawhide now, so we can get as much
exposure as possible to potential Wayland problems and get them fixed up before release.”
So if you use Rawhide, test away and file bugs!
Last month, Fedora Program Manager Jan Kuřík announced the approval of the Fedora 24 schedule with a current release date of May 17, 2016. Fedora 24 Alpha is slated for release on March 1st, 2016, and the Beta has a release date of April 12th, 2016.
These dates may change as development on Fedora 24 progresses, so always check the schedule for the most accurate version of the Fedora 24 schedule.
