The kernel team is working on final integration for kernel 5.16. This version was just recently released, and will arrive soon in Fedora. As a result, the Fedora kernel and QA teams have organized a test week from Sunday, January 23, 2022 through Sunday, January 29, 2022. Refer to the wiki page for links to the test images you’ll need to participate. Read below for details.
How does a test week work?
A test week is an event where anyone can help make sure changes in Fedora work well in an upcoming release. Fedora community members often participate, and the public is welcome at these events. If you’ve never contributed before, this is a perfect way to get started.
To contribute, you only need to be able to do the following things:
- Download test materials, which include some large files
- Read and follow directions step by step
The wiki page for the kernel test day has a lot of good information on what and how to test. After you’ve done some testing, you can log your results in the test day web application. If you’re available on or around the day of the event, please do some testing and report your results. We have a document which provides all the steps written.
Happy testing, and we hope to see you on test day.
FYI, it looks like version of the NVidia drivers that’s currently available from RPMFusion doesn’t support the 5.16 kernel yet, as the kernel module fails to build when I try to install the 5.16.2 kernel for the test day. Might be worth mentioning on the wiki page, otherwise people who use the nvidia drivers will have a bad time trying to test this kernel.
Hello @sumantrom ,
I was able to perform the test, but I couldn’t get the test to automatically submit results, so had to manually. There was an error for …
I did make the .configure file as suggested.
Anyway the results were PASS for the complete test suite, with a new Ryzen 5 CPU and newish mobo.
@jakfrost did you install
python3-fedora
package? You know what, I don’t think so. I’ll install and try again, thanks.
Helped testing on an older laptop but we are done since yesterday
Some closing notes
Hey All,
This has been the best Kernel Test Week[0] ever!
Here’s the TLDR
Total tests run: 510
Total testers: 143
Non x86 tests: 40
Non x86 testers: 8
Scaling up and retaining contributors has always been a goal for the Fedora QA community.
This success is credited to the strong community and we are thankful to every one of you, who come together to make this a bigger success than the last one!
As part of '22 goals, we would like to establish not only more contribution opportunities but also
bring more recognition opportunities to our contributors.
Stay Tuned!
PS: Special thanks to Justin Forbes for compiling new changes and building iso and the Fedora Magazine team has always been nothing less than supportive!
You guys are awesome
