Fedora G11N – What’s going on? by Pravin Satpute
What is the goal of your session at Flock?
Fedora is global distribution and diverse users group with different local language requirements. We are already doing good by supporting almost all worlds languages. Goal of my talk is to discuss issues we are facing in this part of Fedora project and come out with a plan for coming year.
We are sharing this talks, Localization aspects going to be handled by Jean-Baptiste and Zanata, and Translation platform part is being taken care by Alex Eng.
What does it affect in the project?
If you count by number of contributors, Translation is the biggest group in Fedora with 50+ active contributors each release. This group is silently doing work. With this talk it will help to further improve activities of this project.
What does your talk focus on?
Issues we faced in last year and solution to it. I am going to discuss on Globalization group and Jean-Baptiste going to talk on Fedora Website localization related stuff. While Alex is going to point out latest features in Zanata.
Without giving too much away, what can attendees expect to learn or do in your session?
Attendees going to learn whats going on in the project. They can learn new developments and progress happened in this domain. Most important they will get motivated to be part of localization, internationalization group and start contributing in coming Fedora releases.
Who should attend?
Non-English speaking people have been attending a lot since they know how it difficult is to support language. This time I will request English speaking members attend and see complexities in this globalization domain.
What do you do in Fedora/how long have you been involved in the project?
I am about to complete 10years with Fedora. (coming Nov.) I am doing many things in Fedora, Devel, Group Lead, Ambassador, Marketing and also sometimes organize QA event. It’s like all-in-one. For more information you can read this article
What attracts you to this type of work or part of the project?
It’s my passion from my college days. Being a citizen of country (India) with 22 official languages, I have learned how much it matters for people and their languages. From my early days of profession, I took a challenge to satisfy users needs regarding their language and luckily last for 10+ years in same domain resolving language issues of users.
